Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, filed two floor substitutes to protect Oklahoma children from sexualization and unnecessary gender reassignment surgeries.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate approved a trio of bills Monday honoring the service and sacrifice of Oklahoma’s military and their families. Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee chair Frank Simpson, R-Springer, authored the bills to ensure veterans are provided a proper burial and to help Oklahoma’s heroes save money in various areas.   

OKLAHOMA CITY – Pursuing a higher education will soon be more affordable for members of the Oklahoma National Guard following the signing of two bills by Gov. Kevin Stitt. Sen. Kim David, R-Porter, and Rep. Nicole Miller, R-Edmond, authored Senate Bills 1416 and 1418 to honor the service and sacrifice of these Oklahoma heroes while improving recruitment and retention in the guard.   

OKLAHOMA CITY – Starting with the 2023 school year, Oklahoma students will have access to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline literally at their fingertips thanks to legislation recently signed into law. Sen. Bill Coleman, R-Ponca City, authored Senate Bill 1307 to help address the high suicide rate of Oklahoma’s children and young adults by ensuring the phone number is printed on all public and private school student identification cards.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The full Senate gave approval Thursday to House Bill 4455, creating the Large-scale Economic Activity and Development (LEAD) Act of 2022, aimed at securing a massive manufacturing facility to Oklahoma which will create a minimum 4,000 direct jobs.  Once indirect jobs are factored in, that number could more than double to up to10,000 jobs.  Senate Appropriations Chair Roger Thompson, R-Okemah, is the Senate principal author of the measure.The House principal author is Rep.

State Senator George Young, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement after the passage of House Bill 4455, also known as the LEAD Act of 2022.

“I asked questions on House Bill 4455 today, which called on the Oklahoma Senate to approve a plan to incentivize some unknown corporation and entice them to build a facility in the Tulsa County area. We need economic development in Oklahoma, and we must diversify our economy, as we’ve allowed oil and gas to dominate our economic well-being for far too long.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate has given unanimous approval to a bill known as the Stephen Bernius Memorial Act, expanding domestic abuse language in state law that determines who can obtain a protective order.  Sen. Darrell Weaver, R-Moore, is the Senate principal author of House Bill 4374.  

OKLAHOMA CITY – The full Senate approved a measure on Wednesday requiring insurance companies to cover diagnostic mammograms. House Bill 3504 principal authors, Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, and Rep. Melissa Provenzano, D-Tulsa, said this coverage would save lives.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate unanimously approved legislation Tuesday to provide more transparency of state service contracts. Sen. Bill Coleman, R-Ponca City, is the principal Senate author of House Bill 3484, which would require state agencies accepting a service contract, whether bid or no bid, to list the city, state, and country in which the services will be provided.

OKLAHOMA CITY – On Tuesday, Sen. Michael Brooks, D-Oklahoma City, was selected as one of nine leaders from across the country to join the NewDEAL (Developing Exceptional American Leaders), a selective national network of state and local elected officials with Honorary Co-Chairs U.S. Senator Chris Coons, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, and Columbia, S.C. OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. John Haste, R-Broken Arrow, and Rep. Sheila Dills, R-Tulsa, thanked Gov. Kevin Stitt after he signed Senate Bill 968 into law on Monday.  The measure would prohibit the release of a recording showing an officer dying in the line of duty unless the court rules the material should be released in specific cases.

Sen. Shane Jett held a press conference today addressing abuse allegations against a former Shawnee High School assistant athletic director and claims that the school district allowed the abuse to continue by not acting on complaints.

State Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, released the following statement Tuesday after the passage of Senate Bill 612. Dahm is the primary author of the measure, which makes it a felony to perform or attempt to perform an abortion, punishable by up to a $100,000 fine and/or up to 10 years in prison. 

“From my first day in office, protecting the unborn has been one of my top priorities,” Dahm said. “Senate Bill 612 is the strongest pro-life legislation in the country right now, which effectively eliminates abortion in Oklahoma.
