Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat on Monday announced his appointments to lead the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting.
Treat appointed Senator Lonnie Paxton, R-Tuttle, as chair of the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting and named Senator Dave Rader, R-Tulsa, as vice chair of the committee.
“The Senate will conduct its redistricting process in a thorough, bipartisan, and professional manner. I have full confidence Senator Paxton and Senator Rader will do a great job in leading the select committee’s efforts,” said Treat, R-Oklahoma City.

Senate Democratic Leader Kay Floyd, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement after Attorney General Mike Hunter announced Monday the state will receive a $2.4 million federal grant to help address Oklahoma’s rape kit backlog.
“This is an issue many of us at the Capitol and throughout the state have been working hard to address for the past several sessions. This grant means more Oklahoma women will have an opportunity to seek the justice they deserve. Just as importantly, by being able to identify and prosecute sexual predators, we can prevent future assaults.

George Young, D-Oklahoma City, requested the study, which will be held on Monday, October 7 at 10 a.m. in room 535 of the Capitol.

Last February, the federal appeals court upheld a lower court’s ruling that said a Fort Collins, Colorado city ordinance banning women from going topless violated the U.S. Constitution’s equal protection clause because it was gender specific.
