OKLAHOMA CITY – The Republican National Committee's (RNC) platform committee adopted their 2024 platform on Monday, with their recommendations set to go before the full convention in the coming days. Notably, the opposition to abortion and support for a Christian definition of marriage present in previous platforms were removed. Senator Dusty Deevers, R-Elgin, issued the following statement condemning the committee and calling on RNC delegates to amend the committee’s recommendations at the convention next week.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Sen. Adam Pugh (R-Edmond) will host a legislative interim study to examine the impact of students having cellphones in schools. 

The study will bring together national experts to discuss the benefits and challenges associated with cellphone use in educational settings.

Sen. Pugh, who serves as the Chair of the Senate Education Committee, said it is important to understand the implications of cellphone use in schools from every level. 

OKLAHOMA CITY — On Friday, Sen. Dusty Deevers, R-Elgin, commended State Superintendent Ryan Walters’ decision to incorporate the Bible into Oklahoma public school curriculum.

“The Bible’s status as the most important book ever written is not in dispute. Including it in public school curriculum is not a scandal: excluding it is. It is difficult, if not impossible, to provide students a proper understanding of Western civilization, world history, and U.S. history without significant emphasis on the Bible.

OKLAHOMA CITY- Sen. Jessica Garvin, R-Duncan, was named the Oklahoma State Trooper Association’s Senator of the Year on Thursday for introducing legislation to help the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and continuously supporting pro-law enforcement policies.

OKLAHOMA CITY- Sen. David Bullard, R-Durant, urges Oklahoma medical providers to take advantage of an upcoming event to help people who have questions about the state’s transition to SoonerSelect Medicaid coverage.

The Oklahoma Health Care Authority is holding in-person office hours in Oklahoma City on Friday, July 12 to assist Oklahomans who need help due to the agency’s transition to a managed care model, which affected many Medicaid recipients and those covered by the Children’s Specialty Program.
