Monday, May 22

• The Senate met Monday, approving a number of measures in a lengthy session. Among the bills approved were the following:

SB 1934 by Sen. Kenneth Corn, would establish a five-year probationary period for sheriffs’ deputies, after which time their employment could only be terminated with just cause.

SB 266 by Sen. Cal Hobson, encourages any special maintenance projects under $250,000 to be performed by state maintenance crews.

• The Senate met Monday, approving a number of measures in a lengthy session. Among the bills approved were the following:

SB 990 by Sen. Bernest Cain, would create the Genetic Counseling Licensure Act, giving administrative authority to the Board of Health. The amended bill prohibits genetic counselors from discussing abortion with patients.

• The Senate met Monday, approving a number of measures in a lengthy session. Among the bills approved were the following:

SB 1089 by Sen. Kathleen Wilcoxson, would prohibit the sale of lottery tickets by check cashing businesses, pawnshops and payday loan centers.

Monday, May 1

• The Senate met briefly Monday before adjourning in time for members to attend the funeral of Lonnie Wright, Director of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control. The Senate approved the following measure on Monday:

SR 99 by Sen. Mike Morgan, proclaims the week of May 1-7, 2006, as “Public Service Recognition Week 2006” in the state of Oklahoma.


• The Senate held no committee meetings Monday, as the deadline for committee consideration of bills originating in the opposite house passed on April 6.
