Boren said the study will include presentations from experts within the publishing industry who will discuss how stabilizing the textbook funding process impacts the quality and customization of materials for Oklahoma classrooms.

Mary Boren said she’s disappointed with passage of a bill preempting the ability of cities and towns to pass ordinances addressing plastic bags, cups and containers that litter public property and roadways. Senate Bill 1001 was approved by the full Senate on Wednesday. Boren, D-Norman, said the bill takes away the rights of local communities and their citizens to protect their environment and national resources.

State Sen. Mary Boren has filed legislation aimed at putting more resources directly in the classroom for textbooks and other teaching materials. Her legislation also requires funding allocated for instructional materials is used for that purpose.
State Sen. Mary Boren has received her committee appointments for the 57th Legislature which includes the 2019 and 2020 legislative sessions. Boren, D-Norman, will serve on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, the Agriculture and Wildlife Committee, the Energy Committee and the Judiciary Committee.

Sen. Mary Boren was officially sworn in for her first term in the Oklahoma State Senate. The oath of office ceremony for 24 new and returning members was held at the state Capitol on Wednesday.
Before seeking a seat in the Senate, Boren had a varied career that took her from work as a child advocacy lawyer to a school counselor. She’s held positions in the administrations of two governors, the Oklahoma Department of Education, State Regents for Higher Education, and has been a tireless advocate for education, health and mental health services for Oklahomans.
