State Sen. Greg McCortney has filed legislation to add school nurses or other designated employees to those who can administer life-saving opiate antagonists. Currently, state law includes first-responders, including emergency medical technicians, law enforcement and firefighters. Senate Bill 85 would amend that law to include school medical personnel or an employee designated by the school’s administration to be able to administer opiate antagonists, a treatment that can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, allowing time to seek emergency medical care.

State Sen. Greg McCortney has been tapped to lead two committees during the 57th Legislature.  McCortney, R-Ada, was appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore-designate Greg Treat to serve as chair of the Senate Rules committee.  The Rules Committee primarily deals with legislation pertaining to the state constitution, elections, and other complex issues. McCortney was also chosen to serve as vice chair of the Health and Human Services committee.

State Sen. Greg McCortney has been chosen to co-chair a bipartisan, bicameral working group examining the best way to implement medical marijuana in Oklahoma.  The first meeting will be this Wednesday, June 25, at 2:00 in room 535 of the state Capitol in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore-designate Greg Treat and House Speaker Charles McCall on Thursday announced the lawmakers who will serve on the bipartisan, bicameral working group on medical marijuana implementation.

The legislative leaders announced the formation of the group last week. The first meeting will be July 25. Meetings will be open to the public. The working group will meet with various stakeholders and will make recommendations on a permanent regulatory framework for the implementation of State Question 788.

State Sen. Greg McCortney has been recognized by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau (OKFB) for his support of issues important to farmers, ranchers and rural Oklahoma during the 2017session.

“I was sent to the Senate to be a strong voice for the people of this district which includes many farmers and ranchers,” said McCortney, R-Ada.  “There is a saying that’s very true—as rural Oklahoma goes, so goes Oklahoma.  Our state’s future depends on keeping rural Oklahoma and our agriculture heritage strong.”

Sen. Greg McCortney has filed his first three bills for consideration in the upcoming legislative session.  McCortney, R-Ada, said all three are aimed at either modernizing or unifying statutes concerning the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET).

“CLEET is a vital part of Oklahoma’s overall public safety efforts, and the center in Ada is vital to District 13.  The center and its mission are both priorities for me, and I look forward to working with CLEET and our law enforcement community in the State Senate,” McCortney said.
