State Senator George Young, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement after the passage of House Bill 4455, also known as the LEAD Act of 2022.

“I asked questions on House Bill 4455 today, which called on the Oklahoma Senate to approve a plan to incentivize some unknown corporation and entice them to build a facility in the Tulsa County area. We need economic development in Oklahoma, and we must diversify our economy, as we’ve allowed oil and gas to dominate our economic well-being for far too long.

Sen. George Young, D-Oklahoma City, hosted an interim study Wednesday, Oct. 20, that took an in depth look at equality issues related to racial discrimination and bias in state agencies, communities, organizations, and businesses across Oklahoma. The study was held in the Senate Appropriations Committee.

State Sen. George Young wants to make Oklahoma the premier state for supporting minority and female-owned businesses, a commitment he vocalized during his interim study – Equitable Procurement for Minority and Women-owned Businesses – that was hosted Tuesday at the state Capitol.

Sen. George Young, D-Oklahoma City, will host an interim study to discuss the equitable procurement for minority and women-owned businesses on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 9:30 a.m.

Of the 71 interim study requests approved by Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat last week, five were requested by state Sen. George Young, D-Oklahoma City. The series of studies would give senators the opportunity to delve into topics such as racial equality, health disparities in the African American community, minority-owned businesses and funding for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU).
