OKLAHOMA CITY – With students returning to the classroom soon, Sen. Carri Hicks wants to make sure new mothers in Oklahoma schools are aware of a recent state law protecting their rights. This session, the Oklahoma City Democrat authored Senate Bill 121, which became law on July 1, requiring school districts to allow their employees time during the workday to express milk or nurse.

The full Senate adopted a resolution Thursday recognizing the first week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week.

OKLAHOMA CITY –  The full Senate unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing the impact of diabetes in the state and supporting increased health outcomes for those suffering with the disease.

Authored by Sen. Carri Hicks, D-Oklahoma City, co-chair of the Oklahoma Legislative Diabetes Caucus, the resolution states there are more than 356,000 Oklahomans living with diabetes and declares their care as preventative care.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Legislation was signed Monday to stop the unfair practice of people being unfairly punished for missing court dates due to being incarcerated or detained by law enforcement. Senate Bill 44’s author, Sen. Carri Hicks, D-Oklahoma City, said she was pleased to see the commonsense measure signed into law.
