OKLAHOMA CITY - A joint legislative committee will help prioritize proposals for state government’s share of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

Under federal law, ARPA funds for state governments are to be used only to respond to the public health emergency and negative economic effects caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Such uses can include payments to state agencies, nonprofits, industry and households. They can also include investments in public infrastructure.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Legislation to require standardized investigations following the sudden, unexplained deaths of infants in Oklahoma has been signed into law.  Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, and Rep. Nicole Miller, R-Edmond, are principal authors of Senate Bill 95, aimed at helping make sure families get more information about the circumstances and possible causes of a baby’s unexplained death.

OKLAHOMA CITY – A bill aimed at promoting civility during local government meetings has been signed into law.  Senate Bill 403, by Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, and Rep. Robert Manger, R-Oklahoma City, was approved by Gov. Kevin Stitt on Wednesday.

SB 403 expands existing law which makes it illegal for anyone to willfully disturb, interfere or disrupt state business to include local government meetings held by school boards, county and municipal governments.

A Senate bill aimed at ensuring teachers receive due process is now on it’s way to the House of Representatives for further consideration.  Senate Bill 13, by Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, was approved unanimously by the full Senate on Monday. Stanley said the bill addresses a loophole in current statutes that can result in a teacher being fired without due process.

The full Senate voted unanimously Tuesday for a measure requiring standardized investigations following sudden, unexplained infant deaths. Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, is the principal author of Senate Bill 95.

“Oklahoma’s infant mortality rate has been higher than the national average since 1992,” Stanley said.  “Having accurate data from thorough, standardized investigations would help us be proactive with policies and statutes that can help save lives.  That’s exactly what SB 95 would do.” 

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee approved legislation Wednesday to require standardized investigations following the sudden, unexplained deaths of infants in Oklahoma.  

Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, is the principal author of Senate Bill 95 which cleared the committee with unanimous approval.

State Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, has been chosen to serve as vice chair of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee for the next two years.  Stanley represents Senate District 42 in the Legislature, which includes Tinker Air Force Base.  Stanley was named to the post by Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Legislation creating a system for licensing midwives has been signed into law.  Senate Bill 1823, creating Shepherd’s Law, was signed into law Monday by Gov. Kevin Stitt.

The Senate has given full approval to legislation that will provide for state licensure of midwives.  Senate Bill 1823 creates “Shepherd’s Law,” by Sen. Brenda Stanley.  The bill was approved by a wide margin and with bipartisan support on Wednesday, 41 to 5.
