OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma Senate leaders unveiled new district maps that are part of a redistricting bill on Wednesday.

Sen. Lonnie Paxton, R-Tuttle and chair of the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting, said the proposed maps benefited from an open and transparent process.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – State Senate and House committees adopted redistricting rules and guidelines, as well as parameters for public map submissions.

The Senate Select Committee on Redistricting and the House State and Federal Redistricting Committee adopted the rules, guidelines and parameters on Thursday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate Select Committee on Redistricting and the House State and Federal Redistricting Committee met Thursday at the Oklahoma Capitol and adopted redistricting rules and guidelines as well as the parameters for public map submissions.

One of the most important issues Oklahoma lawmakers face this year is redrawing the state’s congressional and legislative districts for the next decade.

But it’s likely the redistricting process won’t be complete during the regular legislative session that runs from February through May.

Senate Minority Leader Kay Floyd, D-Oklahoma City, predicted it could take months for Oklahoma to receive complete U.S. Census data that will be used to draw districts.

A town hall meeting on redistricting was held at Tulsa Tech’s Owasso campus on Thursday.

Every 10 years, following completion of the U.S. Census, the constitution requires lawmakers to redraw boundary lines for legislative and congressional districts using data from the 2020 U.S. Census.

Several area citizens attended the session, both in-person and online, to hear the proposed changes. Sen. J.J. Dossett, D-Owasso, and Rep. Mark Vancuren, R-Owasso, were both on hand as well.

DURANT, Okla. (KTEN) -- Every 10 years following the U.S. Census, states have to redraw their legislative districts to reflect population trends.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma House of Representatives and the State Senate redistricting offices have scheduled two virtual town hall meetings on the legislative redistricting process to answer questions and take comments from the public in real time.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Senate’s series of statewide redistricting town hall meetings gets underway next week with meetings in Ada and Chickasha. The Senate and Oklahoma House of Representatives are partnering together with each chamber hosting a series of meetings the next several weeks at sites across the state in an effort to solicit input and inform citizens about the redistricting process.
