Sen. Young comments on bill to let cities remove discriminatory covenants

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. George Young, D-Oklahoma City, issued the following statement after Monday’s Senate passage of legislation allowing municipalities to remove language originally intended to prevent minorities from moving into neighborhoods. Young is coauthor of Senate Bill 1617, by Sen. Kristen Thompson, R-Edmond.

“Restrictive covenants have been illegal for decades, yet the language is still on the books. This bill is another step toward removing the ugly remnants of racism that persist in our society even while we progress to a more diverse and inclusive state.”– Sen. George Young, D-Oklahoma City.
