OKLAHOMA CITY – A ceremonial bill signing was held at the Capitol on Wednesday for legislation honoring Sgt. Meagan Burke, an Oklahoma City police officer killed in the line of duty. Sen. Michael Brooks, D-Oklahoma City, was principal Senate author of the legislation naming a bridge in southwest Oklahoma City in her memory. Rep. Chris Kannady, R-Oklahoma City was principal House author.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Bill 1200 by Sen. Blake Cowboy Stephens, R-Tahlequah, was ceremonially signed by Gov. Kevin Stitt Wednesday. The measure provides that the State of Oklahoma shall adopt permanent Daylight Saving Time (DST) upon approval of federal legislation to allow states to choose whether or not they change their clocks twice a year.

OKLAHOMA CITY- House Bill 1795, the Sergeant CJ Nelson Legacy Act, was signed by Gov. Kevin Stitt Wednesday. Sen. Kristen Thompson served as the Senate author of the measure, named in honor of Edmond’s first officer lost in the line of duty.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Mary Boren issued a statement Wednesday saying the State Board of Education has continued to ignore state law allowing her to observe executive sessions and questioning whether the superintendent and board members also violated open meetings law.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Legislation authored by Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, to increase pay for election day poll workers took effect July 1, 2024. Senate Bill 290 increased election inspector pay from $110 to $225, and doubled pay for election clerks and judges, from $100 to $200.

Mary Boren said legislation that took effect July 1 doubling precinct official pay will not only help address poll worker shortages seen in recent years, but also points to the positive impact of bipartisan efforts to address pressing issues facing the state. Boren was a co-author to her colleague Sen. Warren Hamilton’s Senate Bill 290, which was approved during the 2023 legislative session.

OKLAHOMA CITY — On Saturday, a 20-year-old shooter attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump, wounding his ear, killing one man, and injuring two more. Sen. Dusty Deevers, R-Elgin, released the following statement condemning the attack and encouraging citizens to follow Trump’s exhortation immediately after being shot to “fight” for our principles.
