Pat Ownbey announced that they will be holding a town hall meeting on Tuesday, January 24, to share information regarding a possible veterans’ cemetery in the community.  The legislators will be joined by officials from the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs’ (ODVA).  The meeting will take place at 7:00 PM in the Ardmore Convention Center.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The House and Senate gathered in joint session Wednesday in honor of Veterans Awareness Day.  Each year, the Oklahoma Veterans Council, which consists of 24 veterans organizations around the state, honors one senator and one house member as legislators of the year for their support and dedication to helping Oklahoma’s veterans through legislation. OKLAHOMA CITY – Legislators from southern Oklahoma praised the state legislature for its quick approval of legislation to help fund tornado relief efforts in Moore, Shawnee and other areas affected by Sunday and Monday’s tornadoes.  Senate Bill 249, coauthored by Sen. Frank Simpson, appropriates $45 million from the state’s Rainy Day Fund to the State Emergency Fund through the Department of Emergency Management for matching federal disaster funds and for other disaster-related assistance in devastated areas.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate approved a bill Monday that will help provide citizens in southern Oklahoma with more higher education opportunities.  House Bill 1227 will merge the existing Ardmore Higher Education Center into a four-year branch campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU).  Sen. Frank Simpson is the principal Senate author of the bill.
