OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Democratic Leader Kay Floyd, D-Oklahoma City, issued the following statement after State Question 802 was approved by a vote of the people in Tuesday’s primary election:
“Oklahoma Senate Democrats commend the voters for taking action in Tuesday’s election to expand health care access to more than 200,000 Oklahomans. After nearly a decade of inaction by the Oklahoma Legislature, the people have spoken. No longer will Oklahoma taxpayers send their money to Washington to fund Medicaid expansion in other states. The people of Oklahoma played a critical role in making this happen. More than 300,000 citizens signed a petition to place State Question 802 on the ballot and a majority of those who cast ballots voted to approve it.
“Our caucus has long supported and advocated for Medicaid expansion in Oklahoma. We stand ready to work with our colleagues in the Legislature and Governor Stitt to fund the state share so we can fully implement Medicaid expansion as soon as possible.”
