Senate Democratic Leader Kay Floyd, D-Oklahoma City, issued the following statement in response to Monday’s Oklahoma State Board of Equalization meeting:
“Monday’s Board of Equalization meeting confirmed what we already know—many Oklahomans are struggling, and our state is facing unprecedented challenges. Oklahoma’s economy has taken a hit from historically low oil prices and the global COVID-19 pandemic. The Board of Equalization approved estimates showing a $1.3 billion decrease in state revenue for the next fiscal year starting on July 1st.
“The Legislature will have to make many difficult decisions regarding the state budget for Fiscal Year 2021. Oklahoma Senate Democrats will fight to protect funding for essential state services including education, health care, and public safety. In the midst of great uncertainty, Oklahomans have always demonstrated a tremendous capacity to overcome adversity. Together, we will emerge from this crisis stronger and more determined to build a brighter future for Oklahoma.”
