Senate Democratic Leader Sean Burrage issued the following statement Wednesday in response to the release of the report of the Oklahoma Commission on School Security, which was chaired by Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb and the members of this commission for their efforts to keep the children of Oklahoma safe,” said Burrage, D-Claremore. “I am pleased to see that the result of their work is a set of actionable, policy-based recommendations which I look forward to discussing with my colleagues in the Senate.
“We are all accountable to many through this effort – the parents who fear for their children’s well-being, the students who need a safe place to learn and grow, and the teachers, administrators, counselors and staff who need appropriate resources to ensure this is possible.
“Now more than ever, we must take the issues surrounding school safety seriously and reverently. We must be proactive here in the Senate and confront those which can be addressed legislatively head-on and without delay.
“I look forward to discussing the recommendations of the commission on the floor of the Oklahoma State Senate and giving each proper consideration and vote.”
