Standridge secures committee passage of property rights bill

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Lisa Standridge, R-Norman, successfully secured unanimous committee passage of legislation that reinforces property owners' control over their land, even in cases involving easements.

This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed House Bill 1060, which allows property owners to relocate an easement on their grounds at their own expense by pursuing civil action. HB 1060 does not apply to utility easements.

“Property owners should always have the power to make decisions about their land,” Senator Standridge said. “House Bill 1060 allows landowners to relocate easements at their own expense, giving Oklahomans more control and flexibility to decide what’s best for their property.”

Rep. Jonathan Wilk, R-Goldsby, is the primary author of HB 1060.

“Working alongside Senator Standridge on this bill has been an honor,” said Representative Wilk. “We’re committed to giving property owners a fair, reasonable path forward — especially when outdated easements stand in the way of progress. I appreciate her leadership and continued work to help get this across the finish line.”

HB 1060 is now eligible for consideration by the full Senate. It previously passed the House unanimously.
