(Oklahoma City) State lawmakers will return to the State Capitol on October 2nd to reconvene an ongoing special session of the Oklahoma Legislature, according to an announcement today from House Speaker Larry Adair and Senate President Pro Tempore Stratton Taylor.
The two legislative leaders said that they plan to use the meeting to address problems with the Multiple Injury Trust Fund and other pressing items on the special session agenda. The MITF, a special account that makes payments to disabled workers, is scheduled to run out of money in October.
Lawmakers had initially planned to return to the State Capitol on September 7th, but postponed their meeting when they were unable to reach an agreement on legislation that would address the MITF problems. Since then, legislators and representatives of the Governor's office have moved closer to finalizing the legislation in question.
In addition to the MITF issue, Speaker Adair and President Pro Tempore Taylor said today that they would attempt to address any other special session agenda items that demand immediate attention when they reconvene.
However, the two legislative leaders reiterated their decision not to take up tax reform during the upcoming meeting, saying more work needed to be done on that issue before it could be considered by the Legislature.
