Smalley takes oath, begins first Senate term

Jason Smalley is now officially on the job as State Senator for District 28.  The Stroud Republican was sworn in during a ceremony at the Capitol on Tuesday as friends, family and other supporters looked on from the Senate gallery.

“I am extremely grateful to the citizens of District 28 for entrusting me to be their voice in the Senate,” Smalley said.  “I’m looking forward to promoting legislation to help create more jobs for our district and our state, expand our economy and generate more resources for education, public safety, and other core services.”

Elected to the House of Representatives in 2013, Smalley served as Vice Chair of the Appropriations and Business Committee for Transportation.  He also served as a member of the Appropriations and Business Committee for Revenue, Taxation and Employee Compensation as well as the Common Education and Government Modernization and Accountability Committees.  

Smalley has a degree in Social Science from the University of Oklahoma and is a technology consultant for a private company that conducts inventory and weapons management.  He is a Marine Corps veteran who served his country for six years.  

Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman said he was looking forward to working with Smalley in the 2015 session.  

“Senator Smalley represents the core values that make Oklahoma great.  His former legislative experience will be a tremendous asset to our caucus.   I know Senator Smalley will be a strong voice on behalf of District 28 in the State Senate,” said Bingman, R-Sapulpa.

The Senate will hold a one day organizational meeting on January 6, and the 2015 session will formally get underway on February 15.
