Skillings Appointed to State Board of Health

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee confirmed the appointment of Charles E. “Chuck” Skillings of Shawnee to the State Board of Health Monday. Sen. Ron Sharp carried the nomination in the Senate for Gov. Mary Fallin.

“I was proud to carry Chuck’s nomination for the State Board of Health.  With more than 40 years of experience in the medical field, he will be a tremendous asset to this vital board,” said Sharp, R-Shawnee.  “From serving as a licensed EMT and Advanced Cardiac Technician to the president of two different health centers, he has extensive knowledge that will be extremely useful to the board.”

Skillings currently serves as President of St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital. He previously served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Unity Health Center in Shawnee as well as the Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Shawnee Regional Hospital along with many other positions at that hospital.

Skillings is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a board member for REACT EMS, the Shawnee Economic Development Foundation, and the Avedis Foundation.  During his career, he has been inducted into the Seminole State College Hall of Fame and received the OHA “Cleve Rogers Distinguished Service Award”.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Oklahoma City University and also attended Seminole State College.

Skillings will serve a nine-year term beginning on July 1, 2018 and ending June 30, 2027.

The Oklahoma State Board of Health is the governing body for the Oklahoma State Department of Health, which administers a broad range of services to the state and its governmental subdivisions in the areas of health, sanitation and safety. The board has the duty to appoint and fix the compensation of the State Commissioner of Health.  It is also responsible for the administration of grants, gifts, and federal funds; the collection of fees; issuance of several licenses; dissemination of health-related information; and coordination of services with county boards.
