Sens. Howard, Jech invite public to redistricting town hall

State Sens. Brent Howard and Darcy Jech invite citizens across western Oklahoma to participate in Oklahoma’s redistricting process by attending the Senate-sponsored town hall meeting in Clinton on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

“Every 10 years, the legislature is responsible for re-drawing state and congressional district lines based upon census population data,” said Howard, R-Altus. “While some areas in our state have experienced rapid growth, others have experienced a decline, so it’s important that our state and national legislative representation also mirrors these trends.”

The meeting will be held at the Frisco Conference Center in Clinton at 6 p.m. For those unable to attend, it will also be livestreamed at www.oksenate.gov and archived to the site for future viewing. Speakers will share an overview of the legislative redistricting process and attendees will be able to ask questions and share their concerns. Comments on the process can also be sent to redistricting@oksenate.gov.

“Redistricting will be the most important issue we tackle this legislative session, aside from the state budget,” said Jech, R-Kingfisher. “We’ve worked across the aisle in a bipartisan manner to ensure this process is as transparent as possible for all Oklahomans. State government works best when all of our voices are heard, so I’d strongly encourage each of you to add this meeting to your calendar and come learn more about the process.”
