Senators Hicks, Mann comment on SDE and flex benefits confusion

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Carri Hicks and Sen. Mark Mann issued the following statement Wednesday after the Department of Education (SDE) caused unnecessary confusion for school districts regarding funding for teacher benefits.

“Ryan Walters has caused school districts throughout the state undue concern that they could be forced to cut services because of an increased need for benefit funding. Had he spoken with legislators first, this confusion could have been avoided. We support a supplemental appropriation and will work with our fellow members to ensure passage.” – Sen. Carri Hicks, D-Oklahoma City.

“First, school districts received a memo from SDE telling them to expect reduced funding, then after the districts began voicing concern, they were told it would be taken care of. It’s chaotic and could have been avoided with simple communication. Disappointing, but typical.”– Sen. Mark Mann, D-Oklahoma City.
