OKLAHOMA CITY – Senator Tom Woods, R-Westville, released the following statement Thursday in response to misleading information circulating on social media referring to legislative action on HB 4423.
“There is misleading information and an irresponsible post circulating on social media regarding action on House Bill 4423.
“The vote in question was not cast on the underlying issue itself. It was a procedural vote on a substitute motion—essentially an appeal of a decision made by the Presiding Officer. The Senate voted to sustain the Presiding Officer’s ruling.
“The result of that ruling? To simply follow the agenda, complete necessary overrides, and continue working on good policy bills.
“Those who are spreading misinformation about Senators’ action on this bill are among the individuals who were too careless to be present on the Senate floor to vote on a measure that would move the legal mandate of Medicaid coverage for able-bodied adults, otherwise known as Medicaid Expansion, from the Constitution to Oklahoma Statute, indicating their support of Obamacare style coverage, even for illegals and those who are physically able to work.
“Having taken an oath to defend the Constitution, and as one of only seven members to endorse President Trump in 2024, I have always supported his Administration’s efforts to close the border and ensure illegal aliens do not receive benefits paid for by hard-earned American tax dollars. Despite the misinformation being spread online, my stance remains clear: I will always stand firmly with taxpayers and fight for secure borders and responsible government.”
