OKLAHOMA CITY — Senator Jonathan Wingard, R-Ada, has been appointed to a prominent regional board that is focused on improving education across the South.
Wingard, who is one of two freshman senators on the Oklahoma Senate’s Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, was recently appointed by Gov. Kevin Stitt to serve on the Southern Regional Education Board’s Legislative Advisory Council.
The Southern Regional Education Board is a 16-state coalition dedicated to strengthening education systems at all levels and promoting long-term economic growth throughout the region. This year marks the 70th anniversary of its Legislative Advisory Council, which was established in 1955 to ensure that lawmakers play an active role in shaping education policy.
“I’m honored and humbled to serve on this advisory council,” Senator Wingard said. “Improving education is one of the most important things we can do to ensure a brighter future for Oklahoma. I look forward to collaborating with lawmakers across the region to share what’s working, explore new ideas and identify innovative ways to improve academic outcomes for all learners.”
The Southern Regional Education Board’s Legislative Advisory Council will hold its next meeting Sept. 26–28 in Atlanta to do a deep dive on childcare issues.
