Senator Thompson's Landmark Anti-Semitism Legislation Advances, Strengthening Oklahoma’s Fight Against Hate

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma stands at a critical juncture in the fight against antisemitism, and two groundbreaking bills by Senator Kristen Thompson have successfully passed Senate committees, marking a decisive step forward in confronting hate on college campuses.

Senate Bill 991 clearly defines antisemitism using the internationally recognized International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition, empowering universities to proactively confront and dismantle hate-driven incidents. Senate Bill 942 complements this by mandating annual training for university personnel to recognize, address, and combat antisemitic behavior swiftly and effectively.

These bills represent strategic, proactive steps toward ensuring every student feels safe and respected.

“Oklahoma has always stood against hate, and today we move one step closer to ensuring our universities are equipped to recognize and respond decisively to antisemitism," said Thompson. "Every student deserves an environment free from discrimination and fear.”

These bills were developed in partnership with Combat Antisemitism Movement, reinforcing Oklahoma’s commitment to proactively addressing and preventing antisemitism statewide.

"With this legislation, we send a clear message: hate has no place in Oklahoma," Thompson added. "We stand united, committed to protecting the dignity and safety of all Oklahomans."

Both bills now move to the full Senate for further consideration.
