Senator proudly announces release of new “Fight Breast Cancer” license plates

Sen. Judy Eason McIntyre, a breast cancer survivor, proudly announced the release of two new “Fight Breast Cancer” license plates Thursday.

“Not only do the tags help raise awareness of breast cancer, they also help provide funds for potentially life-saving mammograms and other services for women in the state who don’t have insurance or can’t afford them,” said Eason McIntyre, who got to purchase the first of the redesigned tags. “As a breast cancer survivor, I know how important it is to get regular mammograms – it’s what saved my life. These tags help make sure women, who otherwise couldn’t afford them, get the services they need to prevent breast cancer.”

The new “Fight Breast Cancer” license plates are available in two different designs to appeal to more people, which will help provide additional funding for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Act Revolving Fund.

The price of the “Fight Breast Cancer” license plate is $38, in addition to the price of a person’s regular plate. A portion of the funds ($20) is deposited into the Breast and Cervical Cancer Act Revolving Fund. The monies are utilized by Oklahoma State Department of Health’s Take Charge! Program to provide breast screenings for Oklahoma women who are 50-65 years of age, uninsured or underinsured, and with incomes at or below current poverty level. Since the original breast cancer tag was made available to the public, more than 500 Oklahoma women have received free breast screenings.

The Fight Breast Cancer license plate was redesigned by a subcommittee of the Oklahoma Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment (BCCPT) Advisory Committee because all available numbers for the original license plate have been utilized. Representatives of the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure ®, and the Oklahoma State Department of Health chose two designs, one with pink ribbons in the background and one with a black background.

The original Fight Breast Cancer license plate was created in 1996 by the Oklahoma State Legislature, through legislation for the design and special issue of the Fight Breast Cancer license plate. A total of 1,998 of these tags were sold.

The new license plates are available for purchase at the Oklahoma Tax Commission located at 2501 Lincoln Boulevard, Oklahoma City, Ok 73194 and by contacting your local tag agency.
