OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Casey Murdock, R-Felt, recognized Oklahoma Panhandle State University students in front of the full Senate for being named national champions at the 2025 North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture Judging Conference.

On Monday, Murdock presented a formal legislative citation recognizing Oklahoma Panhandle State University for becoming the first-ever Oklahoma university to win the National NACTA Championship.

The OPSU team won the prestigious Sweepstakes Trophy at this year’s NACTA conference after competing against hundreds of students from 51 other colleges. The team excelled in events including livestock, management, crops judging, agriculture communications, horse judging, veterinary science, agriculture mechanics and parliamentary procedure. The events at the conference, held at West Texas A&M University, were designed to prepare students for successful careers in agriculture-related fields.

“I always knew that my alma mater was the best agriculture school in the state, now Oklahoma Panhandle State University has the national championship to prove it,” Murdock said. “These students worked hard, competed against the best of the best and proved that Oklahoma is a powerhouse in agricultural education. This victory is historic, not just for Panhandle State, but for the entire state of Oklahoma. Congratulations to these hardworking students on this outstanding victory.”

NACTA, which was started in 1955, holds an annual event each spring for teams of college students from agriculture-focused schools to compete against their peers.
