Senator Logan Celebrates Local Areas Being Designated as Economic Opportunity Zones

PADEN – Sen. Bryan Logan, R-Paden, celebrated areas in four counties across his Senate district have been named federal Opportunity Zones, or areas primed for investment and economic development to support local communities.

Census tracts in Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Creek and McIntosh counties have been selected for the federal Opportunity Zones initiative.

Federal Opportunity Zones were created under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to encourage private investment in low-income urban and rural communities by offering tax benefits to investors who invest through Qualified Opportunity Funds.

The program was updated and made permanent through H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, passed by Congress in 2025.

“Senate District 8 welcomes new opportunities for businesses and additional housing to ensure employers have the workforce they need to be successful,” Logan said. “Any business leaders who are looking to expand or relocate their operations will quickly see that these counties have a lot to offer. We look forward to working with anyone who chooses to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to make a long-term commitment to this region.”

In 2025, Oklahoma saw a record $14.7 billion in investments, according to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. These opportunity zones are intended to help ensure District 8 continues to experience economic growth.

The renewed Opportunity Zone 2.0 program will take effect Jan. 1, 2027, with updated tax incentives and eligibility requirements. Of the 104 census tracts selected in Oklahoma, six are in Senate District 8.
