Senator Kristen Thompson Receives District Attorneys Council “Bulldog Award”

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senator Kristen Thompson, R-Edmond, has been honored by the Oklahoma District Attorneys Council with the 2025 Bulldog Award for her leadership on legislation strengthening school safety and child-protection laws.

The award recognizes legislators who demonstrate determination and effectiveness in advancing public-safety policy. Thompson previously received the Council’s Liberty Bell Award in 2024.

“Protecting children and families is at the heart of why I ran for office,” Thompson said. “Every parent deserves to know their child is safe at school and that our system will hold people accountable when that trust is violated. I’m grateful to our district attorneys for the difficult work they do every day and for recognizing the Legislature’s shared responsibility to make their jobs easier, not harder.”

Thompson has been a leading advocate for public-safety reforms in the Senate, including:

  • Senate Bill 630, which strengthened the rape statutes for students by ensuring that contractors and subcontractors working for a school — including SROs and security guards — are held to the same legal standards as school employees.
  • Senate Bill 553, which requires that professional development programs for educators include training on statutory child-abuse reporting requirements and implements safeguards to prevent educators accused of inappropriate behavior with students from transferring to another school without disclosure of prior accusations.
  • House Bill 1935, for which Thompson served as Senate author, extending the statute of limitations for individuals who willfully fail to report child abuse — ensuring accountability and giving victims more time to seek justice.

The Bulldog Award highlights Thompson’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding Oklahoma communities through practical, collaborative solutions. Her efforts reflect a consistent focus on equipping educators, law enforcement, and prosecutors with the tools they need to protect children and uphold justice.
