OKLAHOMA CITY- Sen. Jessica Garvin, R-Duncan, was named the Oklahoma State Trooper Association’s Senator of the Year on Thursday for introducing legislation to help the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and continuously supporting pro-law enforcement policies.
“When our state troopers are driving hundreds of miles and risking their lives every day to keep Oklahomans safe, they need to know someone is looking out for them,” Garvin said. “I’m proud to have been an unrelenting advocate for law enforcement at the Capitol who fought to reward our dedicated officers for their hard work. I’m deeply humbled and grateful to the Oklahoma State Troopers Association for this recognition.”
In addition to supporting numerous pro-public safety measures this year, Garvin authored a series of pension reforms to improve retirement benefits for law enforcement and first responders. Among those was Senate Bill 631, which would have made the retirement benefits of Highway Patrol troopers more robust. The Oklahoma Legislature overwhelmingly passed this bill, but it was vetoed by the governor.
