As a breast cancer survivor, Senator Judy Eason McIntyre knows the importance of early detection. She works hard to help raise awareness within state government of the disease as well as find funding and gain support for those Oklahomans diagnosed with breast cancer.
April 21, 2009 has been designated as “Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the Capitol”, and breast cancer support groups, organizations, clinics and programs are invited to take part. The displays of these organizations will fill the fourth floor rotunda as they unite to show that Oklahomans are doing whatever possible to help their sisters and brothers who face this disease.
In an effort to personalize breast cancer for Oklahoma’s senators and representatives, Sen. Eason McIntyre is looking to recruit at least two individuals from every legislative district in the state who have breast cancer or are survivors to come to the Capitol on April 21st, meet their legislators, and put a “face” to the disease.
“This is going to be a tremendous event that will help educate our legislators on the impact breast cancer is having on our state. It will also be a great tool for those diagnosed with breast cancer to learn more about the disease, what they can expect and what types of support are available in the state,” said Eason McIntyre. “I hope we can get lots of volunteers from around the state to come share their stories with their legislators, and help us as we continue our fight against this horrible disease.”
Sen. Eason McIntyre appointed Judi Grove, Founder of Breast Impressions, Inc. to chair the event.
If you are a breast cancer survivor or part of a support group, clinic, program or organization who would like to take part in this important day, please contact Judi Grove at 918-691-3874, or email her at breastimpressions@cox.net.
