Senator Hamilton Advances Critical Legislation Package

Nine bills aim to strengthen public safety, protect minors, and uphold Oklahoma values

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senator Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, has advanced a package of nine key bills in the Oklahoma Senate aimed at strengthening public safety, protecting minors, and upholding core state values.

“The pieces of legislation I’ve put forth this session are about protecting Oklahoma families, keeping our communities safe, and ensuring our children are not exposed to harm, whether that’s in our schools, online, or elsewhere,” Hamilton said. “It is our duty to put safeguards in place that reflect our values and prioritize the safety and well-being of the next generation.”

With overwhelming support from his Senate colleagues, Hamilton is advancing the following nine bills:

Senate Bill 504- raises the legal age for marriage to 18, strengthening protections for children.

Senate Bill 1242- increases the bond amount for commercial medical marijuana growers from $50,000 to $100,000 to ensure proper reclamation and protect Oklahoma lands from hazardous waste, toxic materials, and other pollutants.

Senate Bill 1250- requires school districts and charter schools to report library materials annually and prohibits materials that are obscene, sexually explicit, or otherwise harmful to minors.

Senate Bill 1257- adds tetrahydrocannabinols (THC) to the list of Schedule I substances to align with federal classification.

Senate Bill 1521- establishes safeguards for minors interacting with artificial intelligence social companions

Senate Bill 2072- waives county clerk filing fees for orders restoring property to rightful owners and requires notice of fraudulent conveyances to both law enforcement and the district attorney.

Senate Bill 137- prohibits inmates who were convicted of DUI causing great bodily injury from participating in the Electronic Monitoring Program.

Senate Bill 1679- creates the Preserving Oklahoma Values Act of 2026, prohibiting courts from issuing rulings using foreign law and prohibiting any courts other than state, federal, and municipal courts. 

Senate Bill 2118- authorizes the use of surplus sheriff’s funds for jail operations and inmate care, or other jail-related expenditures.

Hamilton expressed appreciation to his Senate colleagues for their work on behalf of Oklahoma.

The nine measures are now under consideration in the House of Representatives, where they will be deliberated before the April 23 deadline to advance bills from their assigned committee.
