Senate President Pro Tem Treat names Sen. Garvin to LOFT oversight committee

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate President Pro Tem Greg Treat has named Sen. Jessica Garvin, R-Duncan, to the state’s Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency (LOFT) oversight committee.

LOFT assists the Oklahoma House and Senate by providing budgetary recommendations for use in setting the funding of state government, higher education, and public schools. The agency has statutory authority to examine and evaluate the finances and operations of all departments, agencies, and institutions of Oklahoma and all its political subdivisions.

Pro Tem Treat, who authored legislation creating LOFT in 2019, said he appreciates Sen. Garvin for stepping up and accepting this role.

“Senator Garvin is a tremendous asset to have serving in this capacity,” Treat said. “She is hard working and pays attention to details, which are crucial qualities for individuals to have in this role. Since coming to the legislature, Senator Garvin has been put in places where she has always excelled. I know this position will be no different.”

Garvin is replacing Sen. Frank Simpson, R-Springer, who is terming out of office.

“LOFT has quickly become a critical tool for lawmakers, which is why I want to thank Pro Tem Treat for entrusting me to help carry out the important work that is already being done,” Garvin said. “I am committed to working with my colleagues to increase accountability and transparency in state government, while safeguarding taxpayer money. I look forward to getting started.”

Since its inception, the bipartisan agency has delivered 16 reports to the legislative oversight committee, containing 203 recommendations and policy ideas. Numerous pieces of legislation have been signed into law based on LOFT recommendations.

Sen. Garvin graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in communication and a minor in psychology. She and her husband, Stephen, live in Duncan with their three children.
