Senate Health and Human Services Committee approves Carter appointment

The Senate Health and Human Services Committee on Monday approved the nomination of Dr. Dennis Carter to the Oklahoma Physician Manpower Training Commission on the recommendation of Gov. Kevin Stitt. The nomination was carried by Sen. Mark Allen, R-Spiro.

Carter is currently an attending physician and staff member at the Eastern Oklahoma Family Medical Center. A graduate of Heavener High School and Carl Albert State College, he received his Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from the Oklahoma State University Center for Health and Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1987. Carter has been in long-term care as both a medical director and primary care physician for the last 30 years. He’s also a member of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association and the American Osteopathic Association.

“I have full faith in Dr. Carter and his ability to serve our state as a sitting member of the Oklahoma Physician Manpower Training Commission,” Allen said. “Experience is important in this position, and Dr. Carter’s 30-year background serving in a variety of roles, from a faculty member at OSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine to the nursing home director at several facilities, will benefit the board. It was an honor to carry his nomination through committee and I look forward to presenting Dr. Carter to the full Senate.”

The Oklahoma Physician Manpower Training Commission works to increase the availability of health care services by increasing the number of practicing physicians, midlevel providers and nurses in rural and underserved areas of Oklahoma through residency cost-sharing, scholarship, incentive and loan repayment programs.
