OKLAHOMA CITY – State Sen. Joseph Silk is commending the Senate’s approval of two gubernatorial executive nominations this month. Community members April Boatwright and Doug Brown were tapped to serve by Gov. Stitt, with Silk carrying the nominations through the confirmation process.
Boatwright was confirmed to serve on the State Textbook Committee for a three-year term ending March 1, 2022, succeeding Wendy J. Jones. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and currently teaches English, Oklahoma History and government classes in Wright City Public Schools.
"It is encouraging to see that southeastern Oklahoma will now have a voice on the State Textbook Committee,” said Silk, R-Broken Bow. “April is an incredibly thorough and hard worker. I was pleased to have the opportunity to carry her nomination."
Brown was confirmed to serve on the Board of Trustees for Southeastern Oklahoma State University-McCurtain County Campus, for a nine-year term ending June 30, 2027, succeeding Jimmy Tucker. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma and a second Bachelor’s degree in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He also holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Nazarene University. Brown has 26 years of education experience, and is currently serving as Superintendent of Idabel Public Schools.
"I have known Doug for many years, and am excited he is continuing his community involvement with this position,” said Silk. “I am confident he will be a benefit to our local Southeastern campus here in McCurtain County.
