The Oklahoma State Senate has unveiled its next phase in the ongoing effort to create more openness in government through greater public access. Just weeks after unveiling its new webcast of the Senate Chamber, Senate President Pro Tem Mike Morgan announced that starting Monday, the media and the public would be able to watch and listen to Senate committee action via an additional webcam.
“Our staff has worked very hard to get this additional webcast program up and running—just in time for the second round of committee action as the Senate considers House measures,” said Morgan, D-Stillwater. “And once again, the entire project was done by Senate staff, at no additional cost to Oklahoma citizens.”
The new webcast will be available during meetings held in 419-C, the largest committee room in the Senate side of the State Capitol Building. The room is used for meetings of various committees, including the largest, the Senate Appropriations committee.
“I’m very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in terms of utilizing technology to open up the process—something we will continue to do in an effort to ensure anyone who is interested has the greatest access to the Senate ever available,” Morgan said.
All committee meetings, including times and agendas, are posted on the Oklahoma State Senate website and can be accessed by going to www.oksenate.gov and selecting “Committees.” To listen to live audio and see live video images from the Oklahoma State Senate Chamber or from committee room 419-C, go to www.oksenate.gov and follow the links on the homepage.
