The Senate recently confirmed the executive nomination of David Morstad to the State Textbook Committee to serve an unexpired term ending Mar. 1, 2021, succeeding Jennifer Stanford. His nomination was first approved by the Senate Education Committee on Tuesday, Apr. 28, 2020. Sen. Michael Brooks, D-OKC, carried the nomination in the Senate for Gov. Kevin Stitt.
“I had the pleasure of getting to know Mr. Morstad earlier this year when I had lunch with him and Sen. Mary Boren of Norman, who is a retired school counselor,” said Brooks. “Our conversation about fulfilling our schools’ most basic needs of having quality textbooks made me confident that Mr. Morstad will do an outstanding job in this role.”
Morstad currently teaches at Noble Public Schools, where he has been a geography teacher for the past eight years. He also coaches their football and track teams. He has experience teaching and coaching at Destiny Christian School and has worked in the medical field as a mental health technician at Integris Mental Health Hospital.
The State Textbook Committee, created in 1946, is responsible for approving textbooks and technology-based materials for local school districts. It can purchase these materials with state-approved funds. As a member of the committee, Morstad will be a part of the process of choosing the textbooks that will aid in optimal student learning.
