Senate approves measure to restore state park status of Hugo Lake Park

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, is the author of Senate Bill 675, which was approved Wednesday and would transfer Hugo Lake Park back to the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department.

“This park has many of the same amenities as our current state parks, but it has not been designated as one for more than a decade,” Burns said. “Hugo Lake Park has a marina and cabins and offers camping, fishing, boating and more. Returning this park’s status will allow it to receive state funding for improvements to the current facilities and add more attractions in the future.”

Upon approval from the House of Representatives and after receiving the governor’s signature, SB 675 would go into effect Nov. 1 of this year. Rep. Justin Humphrey, R-Lane, will carry the measure in the House, where it can next be considered.

“I appreciate my colleagues’ support of this bill and I look forward to the day southeastern Oklahoma reaps the benefits of its provisions, including increased tourism and economic opportunities,” Burns said.
