Sen. Zack Taylor comments on condition of Lincoln County roads

After two historic winter storms hitting the state over the past year, the condition of many roads across Oklahoma – including Lincoln County – are in desperate need of repair, according to Sen. Zack Taylor. The Seminole Republican said he’s aware of the terrible road conditions constituents are facing across the district and is working with the appropriate agencies to repair the roads.

“In 2021, Lincoln County’s district one and two were among the most heavily impacted by natural disasters,” Taylor said. “As a result, roads, bridges and railways need to be repaired all over the county. The Lincoln County commissioners are working hard to improve roads with the funds they currently have – the current estimated worth of the damage is about $1.5 million.”

Taylor said many counties are suffering funding shortages, and if the state doesn’t qualify for a federal disaster declaration, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (ODEMHS) will work to help jurisdictions identify other assistance options that may be available.

ODEMHS provides quick and efficient delivery of state and federal aid to counties and towns after state and federal emergencies or disaster declarations. The agency administers individual and public assistance grant programs, disaster mitigation grant projects, and manages the State Emergency Operations Center.

“If we do get to the point where the federal government will not assist with funding for repairs, we will work closely with ODEMHS to determine if there are any other assistance programs available to help offset the cost of infrastructure repairs,” Taylor said. “My office is closely monitoring this situation, and we are hoping for a speedy resolution to these frustrating road conditions.”
