OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. George Young has urged county officials to remove any locations in northeastern Oklahoma City from consideration for construction of a new jail. Young issued the follow statement on Wednesday.
“As the senator representing much of northeast Oklahoma City, I can emphatically state that there were no optimal or good locations submitted in that area of the metro in previous discussions. In fact, I was under the impression that the conversation had completely moved away from placing the jail in that area, and shocked to learn that was no longer the case.
“There is no advantage or benefit to locating the new jail in northeast Oklahoma City, but there are ongoing and real concerns from a historical, economic, and quality of life perspective shared by myself and my fellow citizens in this quadrant. I strongly urge the county commissioners to continue their search for a location by withdrawing any consideration of property in northeast OKC.” - Sen. George Young, D-Oklahoma City
