Sen. Thompson comments on LEAD Committee's First Meeting

OKLAHOMA CITY- The Legislative Evaluation and Development (LEAD) Committee held its first meeting Wednesday. The committee was formed through Senate Bill 1447, authored by Edmond Republicans Sen. Kristen Thompson and Rep. Mike Osburn in the 2024 legislative session. The inaugural meeting was hosted by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, where members were briefed on upcoming agency projects.

“With the LEAD Committee, we have created a bi-cameral and bi-partisan 10-member committee that will review viability and potential state investment in the economic development space. We will be taking an in-depth look at recruitment, expansion and retention projects across the state and are dedicated to ensuring the state is investing wisely as we work to attract and expand economic ventures to Oklahoma,” Thompson said.

“Thank you to the Department of Commerce for hosting our committee, and to my colleagues for the engaging and robust dialogue.”

The LEAD Committee is comprised of the Senate President Pro Tempore, the Speaker of the House, and eight other legislators. The panel will vet economic development incentive packages that offer tax benefits, funding, or other provisions outlined in SB 1447.
