State Sen. Roger Thompson has been chosen to serve on the Executive Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) of The Council of State Governments (CSG). Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat appointed Thompson to the panel, and to the organizations’ Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee.
“I’m thankful that Pro Tem Treat has named me to these committees. One of the unique things about the Council of State Governments is its regional organizations, like the Southern Legislative Conference, which gives members like me the opportunity to work side-by-side with legislators from our own region,” said Thompson, R-Okemah. “While I welcome the opportunity to work with lawmakers from across the country, it’s also particularly helpful to share ideas and issues with lawmakers who come from states who share much in common with Oklahoma.”
The Southern Legislative Conference is a member-driven organization and the largest of the four legislative groups operating under the Council of State Governments. The SLC includes the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Thompson was also recently appointed to the Budgets and Revenue Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).
“Each of these appointments gives me the opportunity to be a part of the dialogue at the regional and national level for some of the most challenging issues facing states today,” Thompson said. “This gives our state a voice, and gives us an important opportunity to acquire information about initiatives that are proving successful in other states, and showcase areas where Oklahoma is leading the way.”
