OKLAHOMA CITY— Senator Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, was honored on the Senate floor Wednesday as a recipient of the Oklahoma Thunderbird Medal, the highest award presented to a civilian by the Oklahoma National Guard.
The Thunderbird medal is awarded in appreciation for those who exhibit exceptional service, leadership, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to the Oklahoma National Guard.
Stanley was recognized for her service as Chair of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee and her steadfast advocacy for the welfare of servicemembers, veterans, and their families.
“Receiving the Thunderbird Medal is a profound honor, and I am proud to work alongside our state’s veterans organizations and ODVA to build a stronger Oklahoma for those who have served us,” Stanley said. “Representing Midwest City, including Tinker Air Force Base, I recognize how immeasurable the contributions of our military are to our community, economy, and our state as a whole. I’m truly grateful to the Oklahoma National Guard for this prestigious recognition and look forward to continued collaboration to strengthen our military communities and ensure the service and sacrifices of Oklahoma’s veterans and servicemembers are always honored.”
Major General Thomas H. Mancino, the Adjutant General for Oklahoma, presented Stanley with the award alongside Chief Master Sgt. Scott Irwin and Colonel Kevin Roland.
Mancino highlighted Stanley’s work on Veterans and Military Affairs legislation, including House Bill 4012, which she co-authored in 2024 to fund the construction of a memorial arch and veterans park on the State Capitol grounds to honor the 45th Infantry Division and the broader guard community.
Senator Stanley’s unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership have made a significant and enduring contribution to Oklahoma’s military community, embodying the highest standards recognized by the Thunderbird Medal.
