Sen. Stanislawski named to national panel on Education and Workforce

State Sen. Gary Stanislawski has been selected to serve on the Council of State Governments Education and Workforce Committee. The Tulsa Republican was chosen by Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman for the post that will continue through 2016.

The Council of State Governments (CSG) is the nation’s only organization serving all three branches of state government. CSG is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy.

Stanislawski said he was honored by the appointment, and looked forward to meeting with legislators from other states to share insights, challenges and innovations for helping ensure today’s students are fully prepared for tomorrow’s workforce.

“We know that increasingly, the best jobs are going to require education beyond just a high school diploma. More and more positions will require a college degree or CareerTech certification,” Stanislawski said. “The challenge is making sure students are mastering the math, science and other skills necessary to successfully continue their educations and compete for those jobs.”

Stanislawski serves on both the Senate Education Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, and has worked to increase access to virtual education throughout the state as an alternative for helping more students complete their education.

“I’m excited to learn more about what other states are doing to create the highly educated workforce companies seek when deciding where to locate,” Stanislawski said. “This is not only about individual success for Oklahoma students—it’s also about the economic success of our state in the years to come. I’m looking forward to gaining new insights and ideas to make sure our state and our students are ready for the challenge.”
