Sen. Sharp receives perfect voting record from National Federation of Independent Business

OKLAHOMA CITY – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) recognized Sen. Ron Sharp Thursday for his strong support of small businesses in Oklahoma during the 2018 legislative session.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our state’s economy contributing billions of dollars each year.  Even large corporations once had their humble beginnings as a small business,” said Sharp, R-Shawnee.  “It’s important that we protect these businesses, their owners and employees to ensure they’re able to thrive and grow.  We also want to create a welcoming environment to encourage out-of-state small businesses to relocate to our great state.”
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, just over 97 percent of Oklahoma employers are small businesses and they employ nearly 700,000 people or over half (52.8%) of the private sector workforce.

The NFIB only used votes on bills that directly impact small business in Oklahoma.  The 2017-2018 NFIB Oklahoma Voting Record includes legislation regarding:

  • The sale of insurance across state lines (SB 478)
  • Protecting businesses from website accessibility claims (HB 1429)
  • Holding trespassers liable for damages (HB 2128)
  • Agri-business exemption from federal truck log rules (SB 912)
  • Privatization within state agencies (SB 925)
  • Rules for increasing fees (HB 1553)
  • Providing for authorization to apply for and utilize federal funding to administer a reinsurance program (HB 3244)

NFIB State Director Jerrod Shouse applauded Sharp for his support of small business.

“Ron Sharp clearly recognizes the challenges of running a small business,” Shouse said. “By consistently supporting small business and free enterprise, he supports entrepreneurs and working families back in his district and across the state.”

NFIB is the voice of small business, advocating on behalf of America’s small and independent business owners, both in Washington, D.C., and in all 50 state capitals. NFIB is nonprofit, nonpartisan, and member-driven. Since their founding in 1943, NFIB has been exclusively dedicated to small and independent businesses.
