OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate President Pro Tem Mike Schulz recently appointed Sen. Ron Sharp to The Council of State Governments’ (CSG) Education Committee for the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC).
“As someone who has been a passionate education advocate in Oklahoma for the last forty years, I’m pleased to have been appointed to this important committee,” said Sharp, R-Shawnee. “Education is constantly changing. It’s critical that we, as legislators, are up-to-date on what programs are working and those that aren’t to ensure our students get the best possible education to prepare them for college and the global workforce.”
Founded in 1947 and located in Atlanta, the SLC is a member-driven organization and the largest of the four legislative groups operating under the CSG. It includes the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
The SLC Education Committee will meet to discuss educational trends in their states as well as research from other states.
“Knowledge is power. We have to find successful programs and curriculums that will meet the needs of our students,” said Sharp. “I’m anxious to get to work and learn from my fellow southern legislators.”
Sharp was also recognized this week for having a perfect attendance and voting record in the state Senate for the fifth consecutive year.
“I’m extremely proud of these records because I was elected to do a job that I take very seriously and it shows. I don’t let anything get in the way of my responsibility to the citizens of Senate District 17,” said Sharp.
