OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate Retirement and Government Resources Committee approved Senate Bill 97 Tuesday to codify Executive Order 2023-30 and prohibit state agencies from entering into or renewing contracts with lobbyists. The measure, by Sen. Kendal Sacchieri, R-Blanchard, also prohibits state agencies from hiring a legislative liaison without prior written approval from the cabinet secretary who oversees the agency.
“I thank the committee for advancing this policy, which ensures taxpayer dollars are not spent on lobbying or special interests,” Sacchieri said. “Over the last six years, millions in taxpayer funds have been saved under this executive order. This measure will guarantee that these savings continue long beyond this administration, protecting the interests of Oklahoma taxpayers and safeguarding their hard-earned dollars from being used to serve special interests.”
Senate Bill 97 is the first of Sacchieri’s measures to advance from committee. The bill is now eligible for consideration by the full Senate.
