Sen. Roger Thompson comments on AG’s involvement in Okmulgee County jail situation

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Roger Thompson, R-Okemah, issued a statement Friday in response to Attorney General Gentner Drummond asking a federal judge to dismiss tribal charges against an Okmulgee County jail officer who was involved in a physical altercation with Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police. 

Drummond asked a federal court this week to dismiss a felony battery charge the Muscogee Nation filed in tribal court against jail officer Matthew Douglas, who is not a tribal citizen. Douglas was involved in a brief scuffle with Lighthorse Police on Dec. 18 at the Okmulgee County jail when the tribal officers sought to book a non-Native detainee at the facility. 

Sen. Roger Thompson, R-Okemah, issued the following statement in response to Drummond’s actions this week:

“I applaud Oklahoma’s attorney general for seeking to intervene in this case in an attempt to resolve this matter,” Thompson said. “I support General Drummond’s efforts to find a solution to this situation that has raised jurisdictional questions in eastern Oklahoma.” 

Thompson represents Senate District 8, which includes Okmulgee.
