The Oklahoma District Attorneys Association has presented state Sen. Rob Johnson with its Liberty Bell Award. The award was presented during a June 21 ceremony at the Faculty House Restaurant in Oklahoma City.

Johnson was honored by the state’s prosecutors for his work to amend the state’s expungement statutes during the recently completed legislative session. Expungments clear the criminal records of first time offenders.

“I’m proud to have been recognized by the Oklahoma District Attorney’s Association for this session’s legislative accomplishments,” said Johnson, R-Yukon. “As lawmakers, it is important that we enact policies that provide Oklahomans with every opportunity to succeed and become productive citizens. I will remain committed to ensuring our system works as it should.”

The state’s district attorneys helped Johnson and House co-author Representative Cory Williams, D-Stillwater, with the details of the bill. “This is the way the system should work. It was truly a bi-partisan effort,” said Oklahoma District Attorneys Association Executive Director Suzanne McClain Atwood. Added Atwood, “With this award, we thank Senator Johnson and Representative Williams by helping many deserving people qualify for an expungement so they will not be burdened their entire life by a single lapse in judgment.”
