Sen. McCortney announces leadership posts, committee assignments

State Sen. Greg McCortney has been tapped to lead two committees during the 57th Legislature.  McCortney, R-Ada, was appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore-designate Greg Treat to serve as chair of the Senate Rules committee.  The Rules Committee primarily deals with legislation pertaining to the state constitution, elections, and other complex issues. McCortney was also chosen to serve as vice chair of the Health and Human Services committee.

Committee chairs set the agenda for their meetings.  While the Majority Leader assigns bills to committees, the chairs determine which of those bills will be heard and preside over meetings.  The vice chairs assist the chairs, ensuring the committees’ work is done in an efficient, orderly way.

“I’m honored to be entrusted with these committee leadership positions.  The goal is to help create good public policy that will move Oklahoma forward,” McCortney said.  “I’m grateful for the faith the Pro Tem and the people of District 13 have in my abilities and I look forward to a productive, positive legislative session on behalf of our citizens.”

In addition to his leadership posts, McCortney will also serve on the Senate Transportation Committee, the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, and the Senate Committee on Business, Commerce and Tourism.

The Senate will hold a one day organizational meeting on January 8 and will reconvene for the 2019 session on February 4.
